5.0 vs 98 TA

RE: 5.0 vs 98 TA
It will put about 300 hp to the wheels (the T/A that is). It will take a H/C/I plus good tires and suspension for that Fox to run with LS1 in stock form. 8K is about $1000 too much for a 98 T/A with that mileage IMO. The real fun with LS1's is when you add a few simple bolt ons and a cam and make about 400 rwhp all for about $2500

RE: 5.0 vs 98 TA
thats what i mean..i can buy a 6k mustang gt put 3-4K into it and make it run with a stock trans am...which puts me at like 9-10 k or i could buy a t/a for 8500 put 2500 in it and be at 11k and have 400 hp where the mustang at 9-10 is at like 300 350 or something like that...

RE: 5.0 vs 98 TA
you guys are spending 3-4K and only running WITH stock T/A's and LS1 Camaro's?
Where the hell are yall spending your money?
Ive seen some budget built 5.0's and four eyes running 11's with 3-4K....?

i think he means N/A...
a good H/C/I combo will put you at the same numbers as a stock LS1 ...a tad more with the regular bolt-ons. of course if you start throwing bolt-ons and a cam at the LS1, it will come back on top. it has more displacement and a higher CR. only way to make the 5.0 catch up N/A is to go with a 347 stroker and a higher CR, you'll end up with basically the same thing as an LS1.

RE: 5.0 vs 98 TA
well to help with this the reason it is cheaper to build a chevy is because of the interchange rate, a ls1 will fit in to cars that go as far back as say 1955 and so on. the fox is coming down in price to mod due to how long the 5.0 was produced but lets face it the market for chevy parts is so flooded that is what makes them so much cheaper to build. I have a 350 now that i needed heads for so i got a set of 305 heads from 1986 to use (the motor is a 1969 350). so you can see how chevy's became so easy to build

It takes alot ot make a ford fast probley about 6 grand worth of mods to be even in the t/a ball park,

afr heads alone will put the 5.0 over 300rwhp just about equal if not more hp than an ls1
go do us a favor and drive ur t/a off a cliff so i can kick it in the nuts
look at the chevy 5.0L aftermarket.. its basicaly nothing. all chevy has going for them is the LSx engines and even those are pricey compared to a fox
im not ******* the LSx's but this kid is sayin 6gs to make a 5.0 EQUAL to an ls1? get the f* outa here...

It all depends on where you are racing. At The track or on the street. A 5.0 will spin a hellin on the street but hook really well at the track. All You need is gears, lightweight, slicks and some damn good driving. I seen a stock 88 LX Coupe run a 13.20 with stock motor down to the air filter, 4.10 gears, completly gutted interior, full slicks and lauching on the factory rev-limiter.
I beat a stock 98 Z28 automatic with my only mods being a cold air, pullies, full exhaust, 3.73 gears and drag radials. STOCK H/C/I !
A H/C/I 5.0 5spd with 4.10+ gears will rape a 98+ camaro or T/A

RE: 5.0 vs 98 TA
I beat my buddies LS1 Camaro, he's got headers, stock heads, a air box, full MSD ignition, 3.55 gears, intake. I dont know how much hp he's putting down but its fast. With him off the bottle i beat him by 1 1/2 cars and he's an automatic, with him on the bottle its a different story, he beat me by about 6 cars easy, but thats liquid hp and im not ashamed to loose to that. But 98+ F-bodies are heavy and thats their disadvantage.
Oh and my other friend Jr has a 96 Z28 with a nicely built engine, its got a .490 lift cam, stock heads, Manley valves, headers, TPI or whatever its called intake, bigger TB, etc. And i beat him *** by 2 cars and if you dont believe that you can kiss my ***. He's got a 6 speed in that car to. For one thing he went and had it weighed at the local dump and it weighed in with im in it at like 3,430lbs or so. Thats really heavy, i went and had my car weighed there to and i weighed in at 3,076lbs with me in it, i weight like 150. So im ALOT lighter than him and i think thats the reason i pulled those 2 cars on him.
