4 Cyl to 351W Walkthrough?
1)Does anyone have a step by step guide for the conversion?
2)Is any suspension work required BESIDES the rear end?
3)Is it necessary to drain the tranny to install a speedo. gear?

RE: 4 Cyl to 351W Walkthrough?
To put a 351 in a 4cyl you will need the following
Motor mounts
Transmission
Driveshaft
New rearend
If you put long tube headers on, you will most likely need a flaming river steering shaft.
You can also get a new K-member that will help out with strength and fitment issues.
As far as suspension, if you plan to drag race, the 4cyl springs are some of the best to use.
I dont know about the speedo gear. I think it plugs into the side and as long as your car is level, I dont think you would need to do so. dont quote me on that.
anymore information about your car, like what you plan to do and with what parts would be helpful

The 4 cyl t5 will hold up to the 351w (for a while anyway). People will argue to the death on that, but I have seen them take some decent power, and show no signs of wear.
This is not ideal though.
I am not sure of the driveline.
The factory K-member will be just fine, unless you have your heart set on longtubes. It may not be necessarry then though?
There is a swap sticky in the 351w section, where I posted info on a 5.0 to 351w conversion. It may give you some ideas.
Good Luck with it,
jason

You can change the speedo gear without draining the tranny. A little bit of fluid will come out but its not enough to throw up an alarm. Its just a couple drops; have a paper towel handy.

its no different than installing a 302, there the same block except the 351 is wider. you need a 351 mustang pan, you cant use convertable mounts as it will drop the pan onto the rack, the sterring shaft is tight but fits fine if you ding the header tubes or use ofset bushings for the rack. you will need a small cowl hood as the 351s extra hight makes clearence tight. if you want to go fuel injection its alot more work but if you just want to go carb its easy. if you want to run duel exaust find a crossmember for a v8 car (the dbl hump ones) or you can get them brand new form ford racing for $40.

a 351 is wise chice. are you going carbed or fuel injected? all you need is a nice set of heads lke edelbrock vic jrs, a nice matching intake manifold with a nice a cam and you will have a low 11 second car. i have a stock bottom end 351 in my notch with a c4 with edelbrock vic jrs with the edelbrock vic jr intake ,holly 750 dp carb, with a c4 with 4500 stall. the car will go 11.11 all day long.
