clutch noise
 

I have a 94 GT that has develped a clutch noise. It sounds like a rubbing noise that is comming from around the fire wall. I can also feel it in the pedal when I push it in. My mother was the original owner and drove it like I grandmother for the first 90K miles until the heavy clutch started bothering her hip. I got it in june and I have noticed that noise intermittenly since.

I can help with electical problems and audio stuff after installing for 10+ yrs, but I am a horrable mechanic..........

is it more pronounced when the clutch is not in? if so, could be the throwout bearing

I hear it when I push it in, and let it out. holding it in doesn't make any noise.

Sounds like a throwout bearing alright.

You will either replace it and never hear about it again, or you could end up with my luck. I've had it replaced 3 times and the same problem came up again. (in less than a year)

how much/how difficult is it to replace and how serious is this?

I know stereos and electronics, not mechanics....

It's not too serious unless the TO bearing freezes up on you. Difficulty level..not very, just time consuming and you have to drop the tranny which means:

Dropping the front U-joint, dropping the Y pipe on your car, and unbolting the tranny from the engine and supporting it.

Personally, I haven't done it but then my current situation is the reason why I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. I got my clutch replaced about 10K miles ago and now I'm going on my 4th TO bearing in 8 months. It's under a one year 12K mile warranty so the I haven't had to pay a dime to have it replaced and I've gotten a free rental each time.

YEEEEEEEAAAAAA, I am electronics not mechanics... With all of that comming off then is it a opportune time to replace/upgrade anything else that will be easily accessed?
