my car is currently sitting in a parking lot and i need to move it.

problem is the key won't go into the ignition so i can't turn it over or even move the shifter out of park.

The steering wheel is not locked.

is there some kind of quick fix??

Ok, why won't the key go in? What is stopping it?

i don't know. i can kind of force it in but it will sit crooked.

it looks like there is a smooth pin at the center of the lock. is that supposed to be there?

Not sure, does the outer housing of the key switch move at all. The Taurus's had a problem with that. You had to turn the outer part to line up the key part so it would go in.

yeah, i can wiggle it back and forth.

not sure what you mean about the lining up part.

i though the whole assembly turned as one?

Well, normally that is the case. But the outer portion on the switch(the part you turn w/ your fingers) can come loose from the rest of the switch and cause the problem you are having.

you can also just replace the switch, there like 10$ from autozone

Nope, I bet that's the problem though. Good luck and let us know what happens.


Primetime, the problem though is the key has to be in the run position in order to push the release pin in to get the cylinder out. Otherwise, it's a painstaking operation.

well theres a thing where the ignitino goes into the bellhousing its like an ignitinon gear, mines stripped out in the bellhousing which with my key in the ignition it turns too freely n it wont turn over because the things stripped. i dont know what its called so im screwed. i just need a whole steering wheel column so i can part it.
