Default E303 cam in 5.0 falcon

G'day mustang people. My name is Jim O'Donnell and I live in Young New South Wales Australia. Anyhow my ride is a 99 model Ford Falcon Au XR8 5.0 auto. This is the same engine that was in the last 5.0 mustangs with gt40p heads. I wasn't too impressed with the power over 4000 rpm so I installed a ford motorsport e303 cam and crane roller rockers. Now the top end is great but it has killed almost all the low rpm power (under 2000 rpm) so I was planning on advancing the cam timing a few degrees to bring the power band down a few hundred revs.
Has anybody out there played with the timing of the e303?

Yep...suggest to degree the cam first and confirm the accuracy of the grind, it does make a difference when you install it 4°-6° advanced.

the e303 is supposed to have low torque gain right? whereas the F303 is a mid and upper cam?

that cam is 2500-5500 u need a stall if you have a auto.... for power about 500 rpms above where ur cam starts makin power...so 2500 id put a 3000,or at least a 23-2600 stll

yes, advancing the cam will bring the power down a bit in the rpm range.

Yes the F cam is an older grind, but it still makes a butt load of power above 2,800-3,000....



Man if i lived in australia i would be building one of those Cleveland headed 302's.....
You dont know how lucky you are to have all those things layin around out there.

I'm not totally sure but I beleve the e-cam is 2 degrees advanced ground in it as with most rollers...what is you gearing? is this a heavy car?

Wow! ,thanks for all your replies. My falcon has a 3;45 rear end and it weighs about 1450kg(2900lb)
I'm getting the computer flash tuned on a dyno in a few weeks, so I want to get the cam working in the powerband that feels right first. The trouble is that at legal cruising speed 100ks(62mph) the engine is turning over at 1800rpm and feels a little sluggish until it gets into the power range, so I'm hoping a little cam advance will help out
How about loosening off the rockers a shim too? Will that help or will the lifters rattle their heads off?
