Default exhaust problem!

is it bad if one side of your exhaust has a cat and the other side has a hollow cat, like will it ruin anything. cause my exhaust got messed up putting my car on a trailer and the piping came off coming out of the cat and as i was driving it the inside of the cat came out of it, so do i need to spend the money and put a new cat on that side or will it be fine till i have to get emisions done next year?
