Default radiator problem

well everytime i take my cap off to check my fluid level, its down about 7 inches... i fill it up full everytime and it still goes down. i dont have a leak anywhere and i just got a brand new cap. i dont know what it could be. somebody ghetto rigged it before me and mounted a bottle in the fender with the overflow hose in there for overflow.... what idiots. what should i do? this is causing my car to get a little hotter than it should be. it runs cool with it full to the top.

Are you sure that it's not leaking around the bottom of the hoses or around the intake manifold? Also, check and make sure your bottle doesn't leak...

i dont know what was in there before but it looked like a milky color. so i put in 5050 peak antifreeze that blends with any other. im going to flush the radiator and get new hoses. also, would anyone not suggest getting a 180* thermo? ive heard that it will not do anything and will make the car act funny because the computer would not adjust to it right? is that b/s or true? my thermo might be screwed up. and no its not leaking. i have no leaks

id be keeping an eye on my oil, making sure its not a whitish color. If it is, thats where your water is getting.

+1 for pressure testing it.

no antifreeze in oil, its black with very little amount of particles. just a couple on the stick. its up to the fill line also. i just added 2 quarts because i was low. my valve covers are slightly leaking and over the months my oil got low.

im going to flush my radiator, and replace the thermo... and see how it goes. im also buying the autometer gauge ac vent pod.

i have underdrive pulleys w/o the alt. pulley... when i run my ac my car gets into the line above half? but if i turn my headlights on it goes up a tad more. that leads me to believe that my stock gauge is screwed up.

so should i get a 180* degree thermo? or stick with a new 195* or 192*

do you have cats?

the antifreeze is moving because its reaching operating temp. going to a lower thermo wouldn't really do anything...

and what do you mean fumes? white smoke = burnt antifreeze and it WILL smell horrible and make you sick.

I wouldn't doubt that antifrreze is burning on your pipes somewhere
