Default car run really rich

my 89 is running severly rich i was thinking maybe 02's? what else should i look at?

your best bet is to pull the codes and that will give you the source of the problem since the mixture relies on many sensors: throttle position, air charge, engine coolant. i also have an 89 and learned to read the codes. if i can't find a link i can give you directions to do it.

+1 on the codes. But you can try to clean your 02's. Seemed to help that 'gassy' smell go away on my car, idle smoothed out also.
I just burned them with a sterno torch till they turned white, took about 30secs. for that to happen.

it doesnt just run rich it also idles high and low, stumbles during take off sometimes. . its ran rich sence i bought it like 2 years ago. . also where is a good local place i could pick up a code reader? how much do they normally cost and how do you hook them up?

Well, try messing with the fuel pressure, could be to much.

As far as the idle jumpin around, try taking the IAC off and cleaning it with some carb/choke cleaner and an old tooth brush.
