Default Engine swap done ,but w&#

My 5.0 is in my former 4 cyl 1991 stang , but it wont run right. It starts up and run a second or two then dies. if i rev it up it stays on but as soon as i let up it dies. I checked the plug wires and they are all right. I was told to check the IA sensor . Whats an IA sensor? if i can't get this thing running in the next few days me and my dad are going to go by this performance place in my town and get a good manifold and carb and just screw the EFi. I could care less about gas mileage and all the other junk that makes EFI better. I just want it to run. As far as I'm concerned i like the way engines looked with carbs anyways and it will make it easier to get the valve covers on and off and it looks less cluttered under the hood with all the dang wiring gone. So anyways does anyone have any ideas about why it runs like crap ? if i can get it working I will leave it EFI. I was told to check the vacuum lines and I have also been told to check the IA sensor on here. i only wish I knew where the vacuum lines went and which ones are important enough to make the engine act like it is. I have no smog pump or A/C on there so did that eliminate any vacuum lines? Also whats an IA sensor?

Idle air. Its actually a valve. It sits off the throttle body. If it is clogged with carbon, the car will run terrible and won't idle (it will die). Also, check your throttle position sensor. Best thing for you to do is make sure you are using a GOOD Chilton or something that has wiring and vacum diagrams.

you can also try turning up the throttle stop screw until it will stay running, then unplug the idle air control vale and see if it dies,if it dies then you know that the iac valve is working,if it doesn't change the idle speed when you unplug the iac valve, then it's probably stuck,it's kind of a common problem, hope this helps,if it still won't run right, you may need to have someone check and see if there are any codes in the computer, good luck

Ok I'll try it out when I get home. The manual I'm using is one I bought from Advanced Auto . Made by Haynes . I will have to look at it when i got home to see where the IA valve is and look over the vacuum lines. I wish i knew what I was doing but since my uncle is only able to come help me on the weekends I am stuck for 5 days at a time just drooling over my mustang without being able to doing anything. i hope I can get this thing running tonight. Otherwise I am gonna get this dude from advanced auto to convert it over to carb. Hopefully that wont happen though , but I can't wait anymore , I've nearly went insane.

Thats just it. We DID like.... On your first sentence, I never made it to the comma. I read about turning the idle stop adjustment and broke out laughing.

well maybe you two experts can go and read a Ford shop manual or something and see that there is a throttle stop screw on the throttle bodythat Ford calls the hard stop adjustment, the proper adjustment is to turn the screw in just far enough to keep the engine running with the iac unplugged, this for proper drivabilty and not for max power,by the way,the iac doesn't very often getCLOGGED with carbon,it gets stuck. <edited><editID>nostang</editID><editDate>37790.3012268519</editDate></edited>

is the IAC the cylinder shaped thing on the right side of the TB? Kinda mounted diagonally with a plug on the end of it? i'de go look at the manual but it's locked inside my dads tool shed<IMG src=smileys/smiley7.gif border="0">It started raining so we put our tools and everything up. I don't think it would be wise to wake him up at 1:30 am and ask for the keys huh? So i'll see if I can find some pics on the internet somewhere. Man i am sooooo mad right now. I want to get in my mustang and cruise so bad. We passed a parking lot on the way home tonight and there were literally like 50 riced out hondas. There is some event going on called "the Honda Hoot" here in knoxville. I've seen so much rice I fell sick. Anyways hahahaha we turned around and drove up to them and rolled the windows down and we started screaming " Fast and Furious baby WOOOOOOOOOOOOO " haha it was great. it was so much fun we turned around and did it again and one of the guys chased us down and tried to race us. He did a drive by going like 70 in a 45. Stinking idiots. haha it was fun though. I just wish i had my car done so I could drive around and scare them. It might not be the fastest but it sure as h*** is mean sounding. Just wish it would stay on after i take my foot of the gas!!
