Default need input for an 88LX

I'm looking to get an 88 LX and would like some input about the goods and the bads. Here's what I know. It's a 5.0, manual tranny, small surface rust, 179000 kilometers, interior is in great shape. I haven't seen it, because it's over 6 hours away and I don't want to waste the trip. It's at a dealership in Kelowna BC for $2800 CDN. They are willing to straight trade for my 96 Grand Am (stop laughing ). So if you know good things and bad, please help me out. If you live in that area, perhaps you could check it out for me? Thanks in advance.

Winter is no problem. I live on the west coast which hardly ever snows. The biggest problem out here is rain.

Well, all respect to Lloyd, that's the answer I don't need. Sorry to sound like an jerk, but that's all I get from friends and family for even looking to buy a Ford. I need something more than "find a better one". Why is this one so bad? The kms, the year, the price?

Drewbie,

2800CDN is not bad for an 88LX if it's innice running condition. --- If it has a nice interior then you are in great shape. -- Cons on this car is ALOT less than others....reason being is that there are a zillion places you can get parts, which means competition in pricing, which means you pay less for parts than for most (and I do mean most) cars out there. Mustangs are easy to fix/upgrade.A zillion forums that help a great deal. Aftermarket parts are usually long lasting.

I don't know about where you live, but I've been in places in Canada where getting around in winter you need a snowmobile....no less. -- set up a nice suspension in the Stang and get some nice winter/rain/tires and you should be set.

You will have GREAT joy riding your Mustang, so forget those who tell you otherwise. -- When you like and enjoy your ride, you'll take care of it and in return it will make you happy....

I have a POS '90 Mustang that I'm about to upgrade. -- has 96k miles (153K Kilometers)- I wouldn't trade it for anything.

PS - take care of that rust, get a rotary kit, grind it to bare metal, get some rust inhibitor at your local hardware store, then touch it up with some paint.....you'll be good to go.

The price is a little much perhaps. And I'd expect you could get more than that for the Grand Am anyway. I just bought an 88 LX 5.0 Hatch for 1800CDN. Its in pretty sweet shape too. Not really any rust undernieth, a little body rust, the parking brake doesn't work, there is a very slow drain on the battery and it vibrates a little between 30-40mph. I'd say to keep looking for a better price. Dealerships suck to buy things from cause they mark-up way more. The only good thing is they sometimes give a warrenty but you will probably be voiding it soon anyway if you decide to make any mods.

Well the 88 fell through. The dealership said there was a lot more work needed than I would want and they couldn't trade for my Grand Am because of the mileage on it. Oh well, I think I'm going to keep looking and just save my pennies. Thanks for the input.

Youre better off this way. You'll find something. Mustangs are everywhere. How much are you looking to spend? I'll keep my eyes open for ya!
