I've got the same basic problem. If I fill my tank all the way up, it spews out gas from the filler neck/tank seal until the level drops below that. And I can smell gas after I drive it around.

I'm just curious if there is a way to slip it down the filler neck without having to drop the tank again, but it's not looking likely.

its not a gasket its a grommet and it cost anywhere from 20.00 to 29.00 depending on where you go. 50resto.com, cjponyparts.com they both have it.
