That is the sensor that sits in the MAF and reads the airflow that is running thru the intake system and adjusts the engine accordingly.
The yellow plug, I am not familiar with, but it also look like it has to do w/ the intake system and might be the plug that is apart of the MAF

Most of them are for the IAT sensor - why that guy has a pic of it on his MAF plug is beyond me - thats dangerous! The typical resistor setup just has you unplugging your IAT sensor and plugging in and taping the resistor in its place. It works by tricking the CPU into thinking the air is cooler than it is - adding more timing and fuel to increase power. It works alot like a chip would on an ECU - just not as adaptive or safe.
Babe your dad got one of those tornado things that go in his intake hose to "twirl" the air, not one of those resistor things. The resistor chips really do work on most cars guys, but be careful what you buy. You can get the same resistor at radio shack for $.15 cents - and the one you buy off ebay may not be the right resistance - not all cars use the same resistance ranges, as a matter of fact alot of them can be completely different and cause problems. Don't get me wrong, I would never use one of those on my car, but thats only because I have the resources to do it right.

my cousin got one for his sho it messed up his idle and made the car run like crap they call it a chip but its just a little transistor that you solder intio the air meter and it trfies to make your car realease more gas so you run to rich and ruin your engine
