Was the stator assembly replaced when you replaced the distributor? Sounds like its the stator assembly.

my bros 5.0 started dying like that, im pretty sure, it died after 15 mins, only tried once, and we drove it home, turned out we got a bad alternater, try checking that out

Yeah, but the alternator problem wouldn't cause the car to work again once cooled. An alternator would just not let the batteries recharge.
