Nitrogen instead of plain old air?

RE: Nitrogen instead of plain old air?
Just a warning. Nitrogen uses less area than air. Therefore, there is more energy stored in an object with 35psi of Nitrogen then there is an object with 35psi of air. Translation you can put more Nitrogen in a given area than you can air. So that could equate to big Kablammo, if you are not careful. Nitrogen is inert and displaces air and moisture so the area is less prone to moisture damage.
So long as you remember that Nitrogen is an asphyxiant (displaces air)
And there is more energy in 1psi of Nitrogen than 1psi of air.
But yes it can be used in road tires. They have even used helium in tires (not recommended for street use though)

RE: Nitrogen instead of plain old air?
I just read a recent issue of car and driver and they were pretty much saying that its on the border of BS. Their whole view on it is that some shops are charging 5 bux a tire to fill them up and you get "lifetime" refills but are you gonna wanna drive out of your way to get your tires filled? They were going to do a road test i the next few months to see what benefits if any there are. I check my tires everytime I fill up, my car isnt a stock car or Im not measuring my tires everyday to see the effects of road driving, so IMO im sticking with good ol plain musty compressor air LOL.
