Will any timing be involved after taking it out if we put it back in exactly how it was? Where can you buy a stator and pick up coil?

Took a pic for ya.. You can see it if you are looking at the bottom of the distributor from the front of the car, just pop off the little black cover, pull the distributor.. Might wanna be sure you have a timing light when puttin the distributer back in.

Also a Stator Assembly and Pickup Coil are the same thing, just terminology.... I believe that ford's technical name is Pickup Coil but to auto parts stores and such it may be called a Stator Assembly... You should be able to pick it up at any Napa, Carquest or any major auto parts store.. If all else fails hit up a dealership, prolly pay up the @$% for it but better than payin them to do it.

the best and easiest way to do this is to take the cap off the distributor, and hand crank the motor until the rotor faces straight back, mark the disty where the rotor is. and mark the disty at the base also.

once you are done rebuilding the disty, put it back in the same place you had it by lining up the marks, you will have to stagger the rotor a bit to have it settle back into the proper spot.... but take your time, youll get it

Well like I've said - this is for my buddies car. How much did you pay for it BLACK95? Thanks for the pic, too. What in that pic is the pickup coil?

I was trying to find the receipt since I keep all receipts for anything done the the car but I cant seem to find it...! [&:] Anywho, I believe the part was no more than $30 or so... Not too bad.. Don't quote me on that because i'm just going from memory but I know it wasnt too bad... I don't even think it was that much.

That's not much of a coil, more like wires with a harness on the end...lol...how much did you pay for yours? Looks like an easy install.

Should a new coil be installed for safety as well?

Black95 - thanks a lot man, it's been helpful

EDIT: Or is the coil part of it inside the distrubitor?

Yeah, not much of a coil at all, not for sure how it gets its name.. It acutally has a little magnet piece that goes into the distributor, thats what creates the magnetic field in the distributor. When the wiring part shorts out, that's what causes the magnetic field to not be "picked up"... The shorting out of the assembly is caused by it getting wet typically... Does your buddy live in a humid area or does he like to pressure wash his motor? That is what usually causes it to fail.

We live in a VERY humid area (wash. dc/baltimore). It's not uncommon for a 90-100% humidity rate...don't think he's washed the engine yet. Where can you find a pick up coil online?
