Default 17" rims and tires for '89 LX

I am trying to figure out what rims I can run on my '89 LX but with all the different ways to do the 5 lug convert it has made it imposible to figyre out.
Can anybody shed some light on this?

Thanks

The best way (read: expensive) is to use FRPP 87-93 Cobra disc brake conversion kit (part #M2300K) which includes EVERYTHING you need for the conversion to include the spindles, master cylider and rear axle-shafts. This kit uses all Ford parts and was standard on the 94-95 Cobra. The only upgrade I'd recommend for this kit is steal brake lines. Then you can use any 17' 94-04 mustang rim. I'd go with the '01 Bullitts.

For way less you can always just get a 5-lug conversion kit from FRPP. However, at least lose the rear drum brakes. Drum brakes are embarassing on a performance car, even drag cars. Four wheel dics are a must, even if you don't go w/the much larger Cobra brakes.

It kills me because the frpp catalog says I can use the 18x9 with the 5.98 backspacing but I know there has to be some kind of mods to make that fit and it doesn't say what tires will fit without rubbing, maybe a 245/35/18???
Not enough info, as usual with mods.

Well, a 245/40/18 has the same width and diamater as the common 245/45/17, and the 225/55/16 that came with the Fox body. So those should fit. 255/35/18 are the same diameter, but wider, but wider by only approx 1/2", so I don't think those would be a problem.

I would stick w/17'. You've got a lot more wheel choices, tires are cheaper and you don't kill your ride w/ultra low profile tires.

Can the Ford Racing Cobra brake conversion kit be used on an 86 GT? The kit says 87-93 but I thought I saw somewhere that you could use it on 79-86 5.0 if you replaced the fron struts with the 87-93 version. Does the kit keep the stock track width?
