I'm getting an MSD 6AL ignition installed tonight and wondered if I can expect any performance gains over the stock module.

I'll be anxious to hear what people have experienced.

I never noticed anything as far as seat of pants goes. I see you have a blower - it should allow you to run a slightly larger gap.

What gap are you running now and how much boost? You have to be careful.

Mine are gapped at .030

5 psi, but I notice it's around 6-7 on the b oost gauge, which I don't get.

I did just have the car dyno'd, if that means anything.

I have the motorsport module built by MSD, same thing as a 6AL. The only thing I noticed is that my car just ran a hell of a lot better, idle smoothed out a little, gas milage went up about 2 mpg, and it would start easier when it was cold out. No actual noticable power gain though, I think I got a more noticable increase in power when I ran racing gas.

Where did you mount the control module?

If you open the gap up you'll get a larger spark and more complete combusion. The spark with the MSD should be stronger, provided your ignition parts are all up to snuff. Since there is more energy, you'll have less a chance of the spark being 'blown out'.

Mine was a direct plug in, looks exactly the same as the duraspark box that came in my car, other than it has a spot for teh rev limiter. Man, lookin under the hood of your ride looks like there isnt much room for that big 6-al box. Maybe by your s/c?

That would depend on how large a gap though.
