Negative. That means it is "turning over" firing means it starts up, then stops.

when you try to crank it, it just sounds like you hit the rev limiter on a honda

check for spark.. find an old spark plug and have somebody crank it over for you with the old plug in a lug wire.. make sure you grond the electrode out to some metal.. like a accesorey brakcket or something.. like for a nice blue/white spark.. if it's orange.. or a small spark means you still have spark but it's week.. do it on a pug wire from the dist. cap.. and one on the coil wire.

Can you describe this in more detail, or do you have a video camera? It's not a rapid clicking sound is it??
