Default Problem with the cats

well one of my cats are rattling. i know its because something rusted out in it, but i just cant cut it off bucause the cops are really fussy about sound were i live. i dont have the money to replace the whole exaust and i was wondering if there was a cheap way to fix it.
If it comes down to it i guess i'll just have to move and cut off the cats and leave it with strait pipes. haha
any info will be greatly apprecated.
o and i almost forgot it is a 1990 5.0 with stock exaust sept for the headers. i dont know what they are, they were on there when i got the car but they are ment to fit the stock exaust.

I looked in all the junk yards withing 100 miles of my house and none of em have any 5.0s left. everyone is buying em and fixing em up. and the one that i did find had its exaust so rusted it wasn't worth it.

Magnaflow Hi flow cats are $55 shipped on ebay....catco are even cheaper. I had a muffler shop put one on my caprice when the same thing happened...it ran about 30-40.

thanks. ill look into it.
i have another question to go with that though.
does that mean that they will need to cut out a section and put some sleaves on it and weld it, or do they replace the whole thing?

The cut the cat on both ends and weld the new one in. They replace that whole 10" section.

That's what I did w/ my stock H....I used a broom handle and knocked out the 1st set of cats by the headers. I left the other set, though....

gspfunk: thats the same thing I did. USed a broom handle and left the others. If you dont have the money or want to save up for better exhaust its the way to go
