sounds like they've got you covered on the removal, so....

I went with the Professional Products balancer. It was $80 from 50resto including the spacer and it is very nice and good quality. I also grabbed an ARP crank bolt/washer for a couple of bucks b/c I didn't want to reuse the old *** stocker.

There is a way but it can be dangerous/damaging.

Get a breaker bar with the right size socket. Since your engine rotates Clockwise, put the socket on the main bolt and rest the breaker bar on the ground while it's attached to the socket. Take off the distributor cap. Crank the car for a second. It will break the bolt loose.

I've used that trick on a number of cars but the following can happen:

1) You bust your socket
2) You send the socket/breaker bar into the radiator (just keep a folded towel in place in front of the balancer in case this does happen)

Or here's another idea, some places rent electric impact guns. While the 1/2" variety suck, you can get a 3/4" that works better than air ones.
3. the bar can come flying up into the hood...
4. if someone is under the hood, they can get hit
Uh no the bar would not hit the hood because 1 the hood would be open and two the end of the bar should already be resting on the ground at the 4/5 O'clock position. Engine Cranks CLockwise, no where to go. You're cranking it for like one second. No momentum to throw it.

and if someone is dumb enough to stand over it [sm=noooo.gif] while you're cranking the engine, they deserve to get smacked. As I mentioned, Ive used this method before and it works well. The only time I fugged up was when I forgot to remove the Dizzy cap and the car started..THAT was fun

Hellas85stang is suggesting a similiar technique.

Thanks for all the suggestions fellas. I think I may just try my luck and take a stab at it tomorrow. I'll make sure no one gets brained if I try the bump method.

I am going to use the starter to remove mine also...I have an impact, but don't feel like pulling/draining the radiator....
