Default 4mph off at 40

I passed a police radar with my speedo at 40 and the radar said 36. Does this sound right or could i have the wrong speedo gear in my tranny? I bought this car used and it may have had gears put in. Also, do the speedo and odometer run off the same gear?

Honestly bro, i heard those po-po radar things(i assume you mean the sign thing on the sides of roads that say " The speed limit is XX and you are going XX) are off a few Mph. Maybe be a myth but im sure someone on these forums has the dirt on em

they're usually within 1mph or dead on for my car... but 4mph off at 40 seems like a lot.

Ya the speedo and trip meter are on the same cable! Easy way to check your gear ratio is to jack the car up put a mark on the tire and a mark on the driveline. spin the wheel one turn and count how many times your driveline turns. 31/2 turns would be like 3:55. 2 3/4 turns would be 2:73. 3 turns 3:08 and so on.

i have a good feeling that my speedo is also off my a few mph. And its a 100% bone stock car that never been worked on. I passed one of those things in a neighborhood and my speedo said thirty and the radar said 26. Also, people seem to be passing me alot on the highway when im doing 70mph... i think I may be going 65. Im actually having someone follow me onto the highway to check this weekend... I guess i will see [&:]

well first find out what gear you have in your car... then there are charts that tell you what you need. If you have anything lower than 3.55s you have to change the number of tooth drive to get the correct calibration.
