RE: Cheapest gears
With gears... it doesnt really matter. Also, for the install kit. Go on summitracing.com and search for ford racing performance parts ring and pinion installation kit and it will come up with all of the options. Then just look for the one that comes with the axle bearings, etc. and its about $110 dollars. The next step down is like $60 I think so you cannot get them confused.
Also, a trac-lok rebuild is not a bad idea but it will cost you extra cash to have that installed. The shop that I called wanted an extra $200 dollars for the install of the trac-lok. If you want to do it anyway than you can also get that from summit. You really cant buy the wrong thing and I believe its only $40 dollars. But I would definetly call up wherever you plan on having your gears installed and ask them how much they will charge to rebuild the trac-lok because you dont want to take it to them and them throw you a bill for $600-700 dollars.

RE: Cheapest gears
Thats a personal preference. I have 85K on mine and I am NOT rebuilding mine when I get my gears installed simply because I dont want to spend almost $900 dollars rebuild my rear. BUT if it blows after you install the gears you are going to have to pay them all over again to open the rear back up. People just rebuild it to get the whole rear done all in one shot ya know.
Mine works fine right now so Im not rebuild mine. If you have the extra $250 laying around than yes but if not I wouldnt. Just my preference though.
