1st gear and clutch
i test drove an 89 5.0 the other day and when i drove it the clutch seemed really difficult to push in, and actually getting the stick into first was a big hassle, any ideas what could cause this how it could be fixed?

RE: 1st gear and clutch
Tranny might be a fresh rebuild, was it? When i had my T5 rebuilt, it was pretty tough to shift into gears, everything was fresh and not worn, thats why.
Most 5.0 clutches are pretty hard compared to imports/suv's with hydraulic clutches.

RE: 1st gear and clutch
like when i drive my 94 v-6 explorer, i sometimes think im pressing the gas pedal instead of the clutch because its so soft compared to my Mustang. Just the nature of the beast.

RE: 1st gear and clutch
Since i replaced the cable in my mustang it's like cutting butter so the first thing i say when someone tells me "my clutch is stiff" I say replace the clutch cable. oh and this is off topic but 88_5.0 what color is your mustang??

RE: 1st gear and clutch
i dont think its anything to do with the clutch itself due to the fact that the tranny was completely rebuilt 2 years ago, excluding the gear box (they just about last forever) any ideas on why getting the stick in first is reallly hard?
