Default New clutch cable stiff as hell. What the deal?

I just put in my new Autozone (Pioneer) clutch cable. I was expecting it to be like butter, but instead it is so stiff, my leg got tired just driving around the block. Was I supposed to lubricate the cable? Some say no, and some say yes. What do you think?

hahaha, you need a mans leg to drive a t-5, my friend drives a 90 eclipse/5-speed and once he felt my clutch he couldnt believe it was so stiff, he could barely push it all the way in

Do you have it adjusted right? I didn't lube mine, but I guess it wouldn't hurt..

But before I put the new cable on, it was sooo easy to push the pedal down. This cable is ridiculous. I'm probably gonna go take it back out...tonight...in the dark. Hopefully, it won't take as long to swap it out as it did the first time. It's just hard to believe that one cable could be so smooth and easy, and another (brand new) one could be so stiff.

Actually, I discovered today that it is not adjustable. I couldn't see through the bag well enough. Sorry about that. By the way, thatnks for the replies everyone.

By the way, regarding my old cable, if it looks good at both exposed ends, can I assume that the cable is not frayed somewhere in the middle of the sheath where I can't see it?

I was replacing it because one night, it started making a popping sound every time I pushed in the clutch. It only did it for one night, and has been fine ever since, but I just assumed that a couple of threads had broken on the cable. When I took the cable out, however, it looked just as good as the new one...only dirtier.

Hack, yeah that's what I was thinking too, at first. But I've replaced clutch cables before on vehicles, and it's always made the pedal action lighter rather than 10 times heavier. Is the cable I bought really that cheap?
