Camming with stock heads...is there a point?
As the topic says
Is there any point in camming a motor without aftermarket heads?
I ask becuase I want to cam my motor but I don't have money for heads, at least not for a long while.

I really want a set of heads, but the only option for that would be if I bought a set of junkyard GT40s have rebuild them myself.
I would *love* afr 165's, but I just don't have that kind of money.

Dont discount the GT40's just because they're iron heads. They a really nice head for the street and they flow well for the price. With stanndard bolt ons and things you can easily get into the 300hp range with just some GT40's. And if your handy with a die grinder and port them, all the better.
And i personally dont like the AFR heads much myself. I know im going to get flammed. But they're a tad bit on the expensive side and seeing the flow numbers, theyre around the same range as some cheaper heads are flow bench wise.
Also dont discredit the World Windsor Sr heads. THey're Iron but a set only runs you about $800-$900. THats a deal and they'll outflow many a aluminum head.

just dont go to big, like an x cam, it'll kill your performance

Yea, your bottom end power will be non-existant.
Like i said, go with something with some duration to it, because there isnt enough head there to really benifit from lift. So more duration lets the cylinders take advantage of air thats already there and just lets it flow into the cylinders.

It looks like I will be going with a set of GT40 heads...not new thoguh. I'll probably buy them on ebay or at a junkyard and rebuild them myself.
What's a good street cam? I really want a lopey idle, I love that.
