check your vacumn lines too.

a vacumn leak can cause a car to die at low rpm's, aka not idle or start.

+1, if your computer doesnt know you have a new iac, and still thinks you have a POS iac that doesnt work

Whats with the unpluggin the negative battery cable? I replaced my IAC last year, and have not done that. Do you unplug the negative while the car is running? I know its a stupid question, but I want to learn.

put the old one back on, but leave it unplugged. set the base idle with the screw on the side to about 600 rpms, then put the new one on and plug it in.. see if that will work for ya.
