Default harmonic balancer question

I went out to races sat night and i had a guy check my timing. he told me that the balancer is 180 Deg off and he didnt know how my car was even running. Now i dont really understand what all he was saying but something about a chunk of the balancer that is cut out is supposed to be somewhere else and it is off 180 deg. So i am wondering if this could be possible and if so how can i fix it. i know when i rebuilt it i put the balancer on the only way it could go on with the key. So again any ideas on what he might be talking about or what not.

Also i was wondering what all affects throttle response becuase when i hit the gas it revs kinda wuick but takes kinda a long time to get to idle again. any ideas on that?

One more question when everyone talks about advancing the timing to 14 deg or whatnot is that 14 deg btdc? or is it 14 deg adv? Say this is the timing marks looking at engine from fron 30.....20....10.....0.....10....20.....30 do i want it about the 14 to the left or 14 to the right? or where should it be? thnx sorry if these are all kinda dumb questions but i am lost in all this stuff. thnx

Sounds like your balancer slipped. Get a new one. The rubber between the two metal portions has let go. When someone says that they advance their timing. It means that the spark is occuring 14 degrees before top dead center. Advanced ~ getting there before.

Is the balancer a bolt on or does a mechanic have to position it? How are the stock 5.0 harmonic?

I just changed my harmonic balancer in my 94GT. Just need a harmonic balancer puller and a harmonic balancer installer. I was able to rent the tools at auto zone.
