Default 302 build options

I just recently picked up a 82 (I think) 302 from a friend. Before it goes in my Rx7 I wanted to go ahead and get a bit more power out of it. The car is going to be designed with the drag strip in mind, but I want to be able to drive it around town from time to time. I'm wanting to throw nitrous to it also, probaly nothing big (75 or 100 shot). what cam, intake, and carb should I go with? pullies and ignition a good idea too? Might port the heads a bit or find some GT-40s. Just let me know what kind of setups ya'll would go with. btw..the 7 has 4.10s and a C-4.

i wouldnt waste time with porting your original e7 heads. get some gt40s to port if you want something on the cheaper side that will handle ok still. If you have more money get the AFR 165cc heads or alot of people would recommend the trick flow twisted wedge heads as well. good luck with that conversion bro should be a pretty cool car.

i believe the 82's have E6's which are even more horirble.

Just find some cheap-o GT40' heads, port em, throw a Trick flow stage 1 cam in it, some shortie headers, Trick flow intake and a few other simple things and should put you a little over 300hp easily.

Good luck.

Ooops...[:@]

Shows you how much i know about the 4 eyes.

As far as going roller. Your going to have to get a special small base cirlce cam from COmp, then get the block milled for roller conversion which is pretty exspensive. Having to have the lifter bores milled down to fit the dog bones and the spyder in there. Or you can get some special lifters with that special cam, but the lifters are about $450 a set.

So if your on a budget...id stay flat hydraulic, they work fine, you could probably find a little more hp in a roller cam because of the reduced friction but unless your bracket racing where every hp counts, its not absonlutely nessecary, i mean with some better heads your going to offset that power loss substantially.. Thats what im going with on my 308. A hydraulic tappet cam from Ed Iskenderian Cams, check with isky, they have some awesome off the shelf grinds, theyre more for power than drivability though, but they got some nice street grinds to that make tons of torque down low.

Good luck, 302's in RX7's haul ***.

oh ok...I didn't know what all was involved with the conversion to roller. what's going to be the better setup for spraying it?

Either really. All a roller really does is, it is less wear and tear on the cam and lifters and it free's up a little hp by reducing friction. But a solid hydraulic isnt going to make a drastic difference or anything.

Im gettin ready to spray a 175-200shot on a 308 im building out of a 69' Truck block. Thats a good bit of nitrous. But like i said, im running a hydraulic tappet cam in it, the specs are .517/.517 232*/232* and 108* seperation. So thats a nice little beefy cam. Im not sure on my heads yet, im going between the Roush 200cc heads or some AFR 185's. Im stuck there. I dunno, ill worry about that when i get the money though.

Naturally aspirated, this carb'd motor should put out about 350-370hp at the crank. Its going to be a weekend strip motor.
