Default 3/8 or 1 inch spacer?

I just got a edelbrock performer intake manifold and was just wondering which spacer would be better to go with my intake? I have heard 3/8 is all you need and the 1 inch is too much and will kill torque. I have also heard the opposite and the 1 inch will create more of a heat seperating factor and the longer runner is actually a good thing... I will be ordering 1 or the other this weekend so any info would be great guys. Also i am not too worried about the height as far as clearing my hood but more concerned as far as the performance factors.

i very well could b mistaken but from as much as i have learned, longer runners = more torque and short runners = more horsepower. think about it, it will take longer for the air to enter into the engine which means that its almost like a restriction. (bad analogy i kno) but for example: comps poly box, trick flow r series, edelbrock victor series all have really short runners because it makes great power at higher rpm. i kno that you said that you dont care if the 1" spacer fits under the hood or not but im curious if it would? anybody kno?

It might not fit. Our car still has the stock intake and a previous owner put a 3/8 spacer in and one of the air hoses going into the trottle body rubs the hood mat. Probably if the intake was shorter than stock and the hood mat was removed you might be able to squeak it out.

greens philosophy makes sense i vote for 3/8" but have no actual resident knowledge in this matter.

check this out its for a camaro but same principle, seems like 1" has the steepest curve but at low rpms, looks like the smaller spacer is performing better. Good Luck

These RPMs are from 5500 and up tho...and its simmiler I guess although its carbed.

What are your mods do you have that would be be effected by this?

and

What do you plan on doing next?

It seems that the 1/2" and 1" spacers from that link affected HP differently at different RPMs. determine your RPM range now and for what you plan on doing in the future..Then your decision here will help out later to.

i wish there were a comparison on the efi intake manifolds like that carbed 1. I will prolly be running only up to about 6200-6500 top. not sure what type of heads ill be going with but they wont be any more than 6500 rpm. hmmm damn that chart is actually a very large difference between 1/2 and 1" but its carbed and i dont know what the diff would be on my car since the whole set up is completely different. I have heard 1: is overkill but maybe its not....DAMN cant make up my mind. does anyone here have a spacer they are running? heard of anyone using either a 3/8 or 1" and any good bad feedback? hey anyone know if the edelbrock performer intake manifolds are the same height as stocker or taller/shorter? just wondering havent gotten them in yet......

with the rpmI and a 1/2 to 1 spacer the hood will not fit anymore...as i have been down this road already...even with the fire/sound deadener removed.....i seen 0% either way from my dyno sheets.

you tried both the 1/2 and 1" spacers on the dyno and nothing changed? i have just the performer but i am guessing that the spacer would affect the intakes very similarly if not exactly the same.
