RE: gas or timing
If you haven't knowingly advanced your timing, you should check that out, but you'll want to add some octane booster or premium gas until you get it sorted out or you'll be buying a new motor.

RE: gas or timing
Might wanna do what gspfunk said about the octane booster and 93octane. He's right. Your destroying your rod bearings and piston pins with that pinging. Dont even crank it until you think you have it figured out.
You can try this, even if you dont have a timing light. Just cranked the car and loosen the dizzy up so you can barely turn it. Then turn it slowely counter clockwise, not much, about 1/4 inch at a time. Then drive the car and see if it goes away. Its better to have a timing light, but if you dont have one, just do that until you can get one. Its better than destroying your engine. After one or three turns like that, it should stop. If it doesnt, than its something else.
Check ur EGR to, make sure the vacuum lines are hooked up to it. The computer advances the timing about 3-4* to compensate for the exhaust gases realeased from the EGR into the intake, they burn slower and require more timing to burn quickly. So, if the EGR isnt working right and the computer is still advancing the timing, you end up with pinging.
