Fuel problems?

Fuel problems?
Every once in awhile I have to cycle the fuel pump several times by turning the ignition on and off. Three usually works. It doesn't do this all the time, other time it busts right off. But once its running its fine. Well today I was idling for a bit and it started to act like I was running out of gas, but I wasn't. I had to work the foot feed for several minutes and it finally smoothed out. And it drove smooth afterwards, but it has a weird smell to it...i'm going to check the fuel filter once it cools done.
EDIT Sorry, I drive a stock 1995 Cobra.

RE: Fuel problems?
Check the relay in the black fuse box under the hood. Then check the filter like you said, you probably need to replace it anyhow if its never been replaced. Then it may just be the fuel pump giving out on you, has it ever been replaced?

RE: Fuel problems?
I don't know. Bought the car a little over a month ago. I plan on pulling the motor, port-polish and give the heads a 3-angle valve job. Have the block honed, cleaned and forge the internals. I may just bore it to a 306 and upgrade the fuel system. Whats the best way about doing this?
