Default 245/60/15s will fit right?

ok so my rear tire blew out today after much too many burnouts and wear.[>:] well i went in to get some new good tires as these are crappy tires that have been on there since i got them. the fronts are the stock 225/60/15 and the rear are... i dont even wanna admit it. 215/65/15s... well i went in and met a friend back from high school that works there and was gona give me a deal for a set of 225/60/15 bfg radial t/a's for 340 mounted balanced, everything. which normally runs about 470. well i told him i wanted 245/60/15s on the back but he said the comp says they wont fit without rear shock alteration, and he cant do it. So i told him stop being a ***** and give me the freakin 245s cause i want a lil meat on the back and they WILL fit. Needless to say i have an appointment for monday at 10:00am sharp. The only question I have is will they really fit without any rub or alteration? rofl, i told him they would but they are gonna try em on and if they rub i am screwed and i am gonna be stuck with 225s all the way around....[:'(] ANY info here guys?

245/60/15 have a 1/2 inch larger diameter. Not enough to make them not fit. The quad-shocks in the rear won't get in the way of the wider tires either. Cobras came w/245s. However, your car will ride 1/4 inch higher due to the larger diameter tire. Also due to the increased diameter your gear ratio will decrease slightly so effectively slowing your acceleration. Larger tires are have higher rotational inertia and will decrease your acceleration and increase your braking distance. Not enough to be noticeable, but it is a slight step in the wrong direction, performance wise. I strongly suggest you go with 245/55/15 if you really want to wider tires. This size has the same diameter as the stock 225/60/15. Personally, I wouldn't spend any extra money on wider tires, unless you've lots of extra hp and plenty of suspension mods to take advantage of the wider rubber.

well i know all the pros and cons about having a taller tire, hence the reason i bought a 3.73 gear ratio speedo gear when i have 3.90 gears. The problem is that there are just about no options for a 245/55/15 tire out there. In fact I couldnt find any when i was at discount. believe me i tried to get some lower profile tires. Well i didnt think there would be any probs with it fitting but just wanted to make sure, dont wanna get there and be stuck with stockers if i am gonna pay that much for new tires, otherwise i would just get some used 225s for the time being.
I appreciate your input though Steak, and i am already having problems keeping traction without the future mods I will be doing to this car, so i am just planiing for the future the best i can. Plus they look a hell of alot better than 225s...well 215s in my case.

Yeah, 215 suck. The only clearence issues would be w/the quad shocks in the rear, and I know people put wider tires in back w/o removing the quads. The fronts shouldn't be any problem either since like I mentioned before, the Cobra's came w/245's standard.

However, I think the 15' rims are only 7' wide. When Ford made 245 available on the SN-95 GT's, they used 8' wide rims.

One advantage w/taller tires is your car will ride slightly better. That's one of the reasons the new Mustang rides so well, it's got really tall tires. But the new car, albeit fast, is too big and heavy IMO.

yea i will just be running the 245s in the rear though. and i have aftermarket boss rims so they are actually wider than stockers so it shouldnt be a problem. yea i dont know what dude was doing putting taller skinnier tires on the rear...[:@]
