Default 5.0L EFI pinging!!!

Alright, so I own a 95 mustang gt, and had it for 2 years now. The only problem I have with this mustang is that when the engine is at opperating temperature, and I accelerate it really hard, or am going up a hill, she starts to ping alot. The more I step on the gas, the more she pings. She usually pings more between 2000 rpm and 4000 rpm. After that its seems to not ping any more. I checked the timing and it was at 2 degrees when it was supposed to be at 10, so that cannot explain the pinging problem. What do you guys thing the problem my be???

any information will be greately appriciated

Well start off by re-setting your timing to 10* where its suppost to be. Then check ur EGR valve for any missing vaccum tubs, etc.

Also make sure your spark plug wires arnt laying on top of each other, jumping spark to other wires where there isnt suppost to be any igniton. etc.

Like said above...need lots more info.

Ok, sorry for the lack of info.
here is what I know so far.

mods:
bbk shorties
off-road h-pipe without converters
mac catback
cold air intake (not sure what brand)

I checked the timing with the timing light at the pully
I use unleaded plus fuel (89 octane)
I used premium for a month to see any differences, but nothingthing happend
check engine light turns (sometimes) on for a while then turns off again, while hard acceleration
for some reason, it only happens in hot wheather, because she does not ping at all in winter.

Hope this helps more

how hot is your engine running? Do you have an aftermarket gauge? Or stock? you should be between about 180-200*

If your check engine light is coming on, the engine is telling you something aint right. Get the codes read.

I think its something EGR related.

Does is happen at WOT or at idle? Because if it does its not the EGR, the EGR function shuts off at WOT and idle, its only functional during normal driving.

I have the stock temp guage, but the needle never even gets close to half temp. it always usually at quarter or less temp. Im a rookie, so if you can explain what the EGR is for, It may help so that I can check it out.

alright, its a valve on the side of the intake near the Throttle body, its got a little passage way that runs from the head, up through the intake and to it and when your just doing normal driving it lets a small amount of exhaust gas back into the intake manifold to be burned making the emissions cleaner. Well, the exhaust gasses make the intake charge burn slower so what Ford did is program the ECU to comensate for the slow burn rate of the gases by advancing the timing by about 3-4*, so what happens is if the EGR stops working and no more exhaust gases are able to get into the intake manifold, the computer doesnt know not to advance the timing so its like having to much timing under normal driving and you get pinging from it. Its on the side of the intake neck, up near the Throttle body. It should have some vaccum lines attacked to it and stuff like that. Your best bet is to go to Advanced Auto and get one of those code readers and plug it up to your car and read the codes, then you'll know exactly why the car is doing this.
