RE: 1987-1993 'Stangs. Just some questions!
I think its a great choice for a first car. I got my 4 cylinder when i was 16 and within 5 months i had swapped an 8banger and T5 into it 88hp isnt nearly enough. Ill tell ya, insurance on a 4 cylinder swap is alot cheaper if your insurance doesnt know its a v8
Thats one route you can go, its alot harder than just buying a 5.0 origional car though. But you feel alot better, more proud when you get it done.

Anger, there is a recall on the alternator wiring for this car. If you upgrade your alternator, upgrade your wiring.
Another reason to consider an 80's mustang: 80's mustang's are "closer" to 70/60's cars than the 96 and newer cars. Your Auto Shop teacher will be able to help you alot with mods and maintance. He will not have a clue if your 99 or 06 mustang breaks.
I highly recomend taking auto shop in high school. The school shop will have a hoist and an engine crane, which will help alot for
mods, exhaust etc. You can stay after school late on a weeknight and do work using their tools.
Also, you school will have equipment from the 80's like an osiloscope and engine analyzer. You can use these to troubleshoot your car.
Your school will not have the tools to work on a new mustang, they are just too expensive.

well, I only had my 88 in the snow one time and i just took it in a parking lot across the street from my house and did dognuts with the slightest touch of the pedal. I think I went through 1/2 a tank that day in the parking lot lol haha

Well, replying to everyone else, yes I am poor hahah. I'm paying for it myself, and I know 4cyl would be cheaper insurance and better on gas. I know, lame haha, but I'd eventually fancy my baby up. I do plan on taking auto next year, or the year after depending on class availability. I would looove to work on cars, I just don't know anything. []
I'm thinking I'd store it in winter and drive my mom's truck ('98 manual F150, she's thinking about buying something for herself). I know it's standard in Michigan, but I'm going to avoid driving in snow and rain as much as possible in any vehicle because I don't trust my own handling yet or the weather. I know I should learn but I'm not that comfortable yet.
I'll be a junior, but I don't get my license 'til Feb-March because I had a late start on driver's ed. Everyone is convinced I'm NOT getting a mustang but I'll show them haha. I have a lot of time to do my research and shop around.
Oh, how are these guys on gas? I won't be a driving a ton of places, but I don't want to be filling up every second. Even if I was, I'd still probably buy it haha. Thanks everybody! You helped a lot!
