Default 1987-1993 'Stangs. Just some questions!

Hi there, I absolutely looooove all mustangs, the classics and the new ones.
I know 80's/90's stangs aren't "classic" but I wasn't totally sure where to post as they are older.

I'm going to warn you right now that a lot of my questions are stupid- asI don't know much about cars except for the exterior.

I've been looking to buy an 87-93 mustang for a first car. Would this be a wise choice? Are they considered sports cars? Do they make them in 4 cyl?

Is there any place online with reviews for them? Any recalls? How about safety? That is really important, my friends were talking about how they wanted trucks because they are safer for them if they got into an accident and it made me think that if I was hit in my little old mustang would I make it out alive?

Overall would it be a good investment? Man I want one so badly but I want to make sure I'm making a good choice. Thank you SO much!

you shouldve posted it in the 5.0 or 2.3 section. but i can answer most of this.

87-93 'fox' bodied stangs are pretty good cars. they had 2 engine choices a 5.0V8 and a 2.3I4. my first car was a 90 2.3, it was really reliable, never broke down, maybe once or twice in the 3 years. the 2.3 is a good car but it only has a measly 88 horsepower, and that is just too SLOW. but taking it slow for a first car might be a good idea, since your SN has anger involved. but if you want good amount of power, then buy a 87-93 5.0 stang. they get around the same mileage and they are just cool. as for online places, i cant help you on that. its been years since this car was released, finding info on recalls might not be so easy, but i wouldnt know, i havnt tried. they are considered sports cars, they are safe enough, one airbag in the steering wheel, and depending how you would get hit, you might make it out alive. if you end up getting a 5.0, and your friends a truck, you will smoke them off the line. i take it your only a sophomore in HS right now?(just by telling by your SN and the fact your loking for a first car)

hope this helped

the 90-93 were the only ones to have airbags. the best year to look for is the 89 they had mass air and still had the tilt steering wheel but they dont have an airbag. i get 28mpg in my 91 gt vert

you should be fine in a crash unless you are going freeway speeds or hit a brick wall/ telephone pole, etc. BTW dont get a 4 cyl mustang, you will absolutley get made fun of. people will find out you have a stang, get excited, then laugh when they find out its a dog. And those trucks are fine in head on rear end collisions, but they will have to worry a hell of alot more than you about rolling the damn things.

get the 5.0 HO V8, there are unlimited mods for these cars and the fox bodys are approaching 20yrs in the business, 5 more years and we qualify for antique auto insurance...LOL (cheaper), but any car is only as safe as the driver, i have friends who could crash an army tank and others who drive like ms daisy.... good luck and read a lot before buying...unlimited info on the net for these cars..

I would say if you like the older mustangs go with a fox. If you want something newer but still with the 5.0 get a sn-95 (1994-1995). If you think that you want a 4.6 then go get a 1996-1998. If your parents are buying it just make them buy you a 07' Cobra.

Well, the only thing with having a 5.0 for a first car is the dangers of driving it in the rain, snow, etc. If you start modding it and put some power to the wheels at times it will be difficult to have it an all year around car. If its stock than you will be OK in the rain.... just slow driving and be alert. I havent had my new 5.0 in the snow yet but I will find out what its like in a few months
