Default HELP me stop myself please!

Thanks to many of you for your advice after my hit and run accident. The insurance did not cover the break repairs though! My 88 GT will not stop. Apparently the brake piston is leaking (pouring out) of the driver side rear drum. Anyone have a link- or some pointers for changing this? Rookie do it yourselfer in need- Thanks Boys!

Replacing the wheel cylinder is easy if youve done it before.... the problem you'll have is with the retaining springs... you can get a brake tool for them cheap or a big screwdriver if you feel lucky...

get a chiltons or haynes manual for your car. read it carefully, don't rush things. have someone one help you, always helps to have someone to talk to to get "ideas" or solutions floatin around. take some digital pictures of the spring layout before removing anything. I've always removed one side at a time and used the opposite side for "reverse comparison" when reassembling. best of luck.

The shoes were drenched in brake fluid, with some brake cleaner - will they be ok, or am I looking at changing those too? Anyone know a ballpark amount for rear shoes & springs? ( I will do both sides) Thanks

I just did a rear drum brake job on my '90 Sunday. Replace wheel cylinders, shoes, and drums for $101.00
Drums where $22.00 each. You do the math. It's a simple job even for the novice. Just do one side at a time, bleed your brakes really good when you get done and don't forget to properly adj. your shoes-drum adjustment. CLEAN ALL SURFACES WITH BRAKE CLEANER!!

WHY? Will brake cleaner affect the linings?

And to add to this I did mean to clean everything before you reassemble...drums, all springs, backing plate, yada yada yada....
