RE: exhaust legal or not?
yes , do it yourself, if you can. it's ez
but if not , borrow a trailer or tow dolly, tell them it's a track only car, take off the plate, tow it in, and tow it out.
no cats law ONLY applies to an on road vehicle...not offroad

Its not too hard. Two jackstands, a jack, some tools, a little rust lube, and some elbow grease. Its not hard at all. I was gonna have my hpipe and muffs installed and the wanted like 125.00 so I kept my money and just took a few hours. BTW O/R h pipes are illegal in some states. Especially here in CA

I'm sure this would work though. They are just trying to cover their own ***. Following nitrous bob's advice... it puts the liability back onto you and away from the shop.

I used to work in an exhaust shop here in michigan, and here if you bring it in with no cats, and sign a waiver then we could put what ever you wanted on it. that took the liability away from the shop and put it on yourself. this was a few years ago, laws may have changed since then.

When i took my car in to midas they would work on it with o/r H and they also said it sounded really good. but they said they couldnt actually install the o/r H just all the other catback stuff . I will be doing my own headers though like i did the H pipe.

Yea id do it myself to. Nothing hard about it. Ive seen guys use the screw type pipe clams to hold their mufflers on with no problems before. makes for an easy muffler swap.

It's a federal law. If you don't have converters, it's not legal.
