Don't really have to, but I say clean it whenever you clean your airfilter, while you're at it you could run a rag through your intake and clean it out so that way your entire intake stays pretty clean.

I clean mine once a week.

Just kidding. I guess it would vary from car to car. For example, when I went to clean mine, there was no oil in it, and very little carbon; whereas others report that their TBs collect oil inside.

My air filter and MAF get cleaned once a week to everyother week because I live on dirt roads, they both get dirty. But I'll clean it when ever I feel like.

Thats interesting, I noticed a small hesitation in the acceleration, and was just curious to the cause. I need to check my timing, and even though I put new plugs and wires on her last year, it may be time again. I am not really a road racer, but I like to play every now and then, and especially with the new paint, hood and wing, every import that pulls up next to me wants to go. Oh well, some I play with, some I dont, I just want my baby to run right.

Anybody know exactly how to clean the MAF sensor?
Never soak the sensor or spray anything directly on it. The safest way to clean them is Denatured-Alcohol and a swab. To clean it remove the MAF housing. At the top of it, remove the 2 retaining Torx Bit screws and gently pull the sensor out. If the 2 filaments of the sensor are dirty wet the swab with the alcohol and gently rub the filaments on all exposed sides. Check the MAF wiring harness for loose or dirty connectors and bad wiring. After you are sure the filaments are clean, reinstall the Sensor and the MAF. After installing the MAF, disconnect the negative battery cable for 10 minutes minimum to clear the PCM's memory. Reconnect battery and test drive to re-learn PCM and to make sure the problems are gone.

I don't know about SN95s, but on my car, you don't have to remove the MAF housing to remove the sensor from it. At any rate, I have a question for you jthorn9. Should one avoid using MAF spray cleaner?

Clean the mass air flow sensor with electric contact cleaner. It will not hurt the sensor to spray the hot wire until it is clean. Do not use compressed air to dry, just let it sit for a few minutes. If you run an air filter that has oil it, a good practice is to clean it every three months as I've seen enough oil and dirt, it doesn't take much, to cause hesitation and fuel trim numbers to be skewed.
