I had an '86 (130k miles) and have a '90 now (140k miles) that runs low 12's, never had a problem with either...

greatttt...
last night i was riding my honda 250r
had it in 6th gear pinned on a gravel road,
and the front sprocket came off somehow
took a huge bite out of my frame, bent my shifter down, putting stress on the seal,
and EXPLODED one of my swingarm bushings..
i guess im just lucky it didnt go thru my ankle, that would have sucked

but the motor is pulled out of it too now, and the swing arm as well..
and i have $48 in my checking account for some odd reason D=

Your lucky that chain didn't take your calf muscle off! You have to always use blue locktite on countershaft sprocket nuts, and tighten them with an air wrench if you can. I had one of those things come off twice. The first time, the chain went through my crankcase, and I had to replace the motor of an 86 Gixxer 750. The second time, luckily I was in the habit of checking the nut every other day, and I caught it before the sprocket came off. Blue locktite--red if you're never gonna take it off again. But yeah, WTF does that have to do with Mustangs?

i've a few problems with my 5.0 liter in the 6 years i've had, but i will say that one big one was my fault, and the other big one was the previous owners fault. the one i did coulda definitely been prevented had i not been so moronic. first one was the radiator. previous owner slit it before i even bought it, patched it up, and the patch came loose, and blew the whole radiator. other problem was i fried my fuel pump from having a bad relay. other than that all i've done is routine maintenance. brake pads, belts, hoses, tune up, tires, fluids, and filters. i did also replace the clutch, and exhaust. i didn't like the feel of the clutch, but it wasn't worn out at all. i was trying to upgrade to the flowmaster stuff, so i replaced the exhaust.
