Default Good deal or not

I came across an 89 convertible GT the other day and the owner is looking to get $1200 for. The car has about 130,000mi. on it and the engine and drivetrain appear to be in decent shape. The body is another story, it needs a complete new top including the frame, inerior is in very rough shape, windows on driver side don't work. Under carriage appears in decent shape for being a new england car. There are some other small items that don't work or are broke. I passed on the car, as to me it would seem worth it if I was looking for a drivetrain, but thought I'd see what everybody else thought.

Thanx

if the frame is good and underneath only has surface rust, itd be a good deal, its just a matter of if you would have to replace floors and whole body panels like a door cuz the rocker is rotted or quarter panel if so, then dont bother

That sounds like a good deal. I cant get a 5.0 here in PA for less that $2500.
If you can spend the time and have the cash it sounds like a great project.
Who needs a top, drive her around with the top down.

i live in NY and my car has no surface rust anywhere, it has 113,000 miles on her, in new england area you know better than to drive these in the winter, too much salt used on the road, you can find a better starter car than that, with no rust at all... you'll be better off, the money you'll spend trying to get rid of rust youd spend less just starting with out it. Good Luck in your search

The car really does not have to much rust. The undercarriage appears to be mostly rust free from what I can see. There is some rot on the drivers shock tower, but does not appear to be too bad. The biggest worry from what I've been reading is replacing the top and frame. I'm not sure what else is wrong with it either as the top does not move right now. Anybody have any experience on replacing the top??

Thanx to everyone who replied.
