I have a turbocharger laying around and was eventually going to put it on my 5.0, my question is can you lower the boost of a turbo?And how?

quick answer is you get a Boost Controller either manual or electric depending on your likings. A manual one is you set it for what your boost but is a pain to adjust while a electric one you can adjust it in the cabin of your car. Google boost controlers and go wild. You would get a better response if you went to the PIPES BOOST AND JUICE section this is all they talk aboot there

how low it boost depends on the wastegate actuator. is it an internal or external waste gate. how much it will boost depends on the waste gate t too but the waste gate comes with a base boost setting.it has a vaccum line that runs too it and is set to open at a certain psi, the boost controller is what lets the turbo boost more by restricting the pressure to the waste gate so it will open at a higher boost pressure therefore letting you boost more. you can get a wastegate that has a base setting at 5psi then install a boost controller to boost higher psi.. if needed

if you have an external wastegate you can simply buy the one you want

if it has an internal wastegate it depends on what the stock pressure is set at


but a boost controller will only let it boost more. what it will boost the lowest is depending on the wastegate setting.

for example on my supra i had it had an internal waste gate and the actuator for the waste gate was set at 7psi thats the least it would boost with or without a boost controller at full boost. but with a boost controller i could boost all the way up to 15psi effeciently at full boost.


depending on what size turbo it is. is how much it will be able to boost to be effecient....

Well basically then I will need to get a diff wastegate and a boost controller, I don't want too little boost but I def. don't want too much.

just make sure to find out what the actuator is set at on the wastegate before you buy it... then install it and the boost controller and have fun. turbos are a blast and can turn a calm engine into a beast..
