Micronite gear finishing
Hey guys,
a friend of mine posted this on my motorsports forum, and i was wondering if anyone has any insight about it.
"I see people gaining 6-7% of their original power at high load, but I'm looking at it more in terms of efficiency...I don't know much about gears, and I don't know how much of a cushion that gear oil provides (that prevents friction) when you're just cruising down the highway or driving around town accelerating from stoplights all the time...I wonder what kind of gains you could see. Anybody see any real negative effects of it? Only one I can think of is it might make it difficult to see a proper contact pattern when setting up the gears in the first place, but I'd still think it's doable, and once done, I'd bet they'll be even quieter (although well setup gears in most street cars are really quiet anyways)...it's a process that isn't all that expensive."
discuss.
