Default good combo? potential? and other Qs

My current engine is a 306 with KB hypereutectic flattop pistons on stock rods with ARP bolts, stock crank, Crane high energy 278 hydraulic flat cam, roller rockers, 600 cfm holley, performer rpm intake, and world products 185 cast iron heads with full length headers. Behind that is a C-4 with 2500 stall converter and 3.55, soon to be 3.73 gears. Im debating weather or not to pull the engine in favor of a stroked roller motor built to handle a little more power. theres nothing wrong with the engine I have, in fact its only got about 5000 miles on it, if even that much. What kind of power is my current combo capable of making? Desktop dyno says as high as 400 with open headers, but I think more like 340-350 (with full 2.5" exhaust). What upgrades would you make? Im thinking a performer rpm air gap intake (current carb and intake will be pulled for a different project very soon) and a 650 vac sec, 284+ cam, and a better oil pan similar to what comes on the FRPP crate engines. The cam change will probly require I go to a 3500 stall converter too.

On the subject of upgrades, how about valve springs? The ones that are on it now came pre-assembled on the heads, and I think are good to about .560 lift. Dont remember specific specs. Ive always liked the idea of a conical or beehive spring, since it cuts down on the weight of the retainer. Any opinions on the beehive springs? Ive noticed that a couple of the newer production engines coming out from ford and/or gm are using them.

and lastly, can anyone suggest some books with higher end techniques and tips and such for building SBF engines? I read Grumpy Jenkins "the chevrolet racing engine" (at least i think thats the name) a few years back, and while it was pretty dated even then, I was impressed with the logic and thought and thoroughness of everything presented.

sorry for the buttload of questions, but ive been sorta daydreaming about this off and on for a while now and figured i would just make one educated post instead of a bunch of half assed ones.
