RE: 9in rim w. 5.5. backspace?
i really dunno yet... id say stock tire height... the whole numbers w. tires thing is really confusing to me... there seems alot to go w. it. i no ima keep the stock rim size... 15 inch, right? and i guess stock tire height... w.e. that is, the whole 225/??/15r??? thing makes no sense to me. so what outer fender prob do u mean? will it hit or rub? if so, should i go w. 8 inch wide rims w a 4 inch back space? sorry its alot of questions, but when it comes to wheels/rims/tires its like readin another lang. thanks guys

No, the less back spacing the more the wheel tire combo will stick out. Yes, depending on the size of the tire, it may rub the fender. I have a 17x9" rim, 6.0" backspace w/ a 275 tire. It fits perfectly. I did remove the quads but so what. On my wifes car, 90 vert, 17X8.5" rim, 5.72" back space w/ a 275 tire and still has the quads. Another perfect fit.

No clue on the stock stats, just know what works. Whether it 15, 16 or 17" wheels, the backspacing is still the same. A 275 tire (width) will work regaurdless of the series, 40, 45, 50, 55. (height) Don't wanna go any taller than a 50 series though.
Break it down.... 275/40/17
275= width
40= height
17= over all diameter

a 255 tire is the widest on a 15 rim, but I perfer togo with a 245 in the back
XXX=width/XX=height/XX=rim size
EDIT: DAMNIT BEAT AGAIN![:@] and the stock tires were 225/60/15s on my 86
