160 mph speedometer in 1988
Did the 1988 mustang come with a 160 speedometer? My dad just bought a GT Convertable and it has one in it. It says Ford Racing also the engine has ford racing plug wires. Is this something special?

I dont think its stock. I have the same gauge, but I installed it cuz its aftermarket. The only stangs that may have came with one that year were probably Saleens or Police Interceptors.

its most likely and after market Speedo. i think those years the speedo was a 140 MPH one. and the plugs are ford racing performance parts plug wires. also did not come stock on the 88 GT's

The police cars came with a 160 but it was a stock style, not motorsport...

88's came with 85mph speedo's. Im almost positive that they never put a 160 speedo in a fox stang. They started with the 140 in 89.

If im not mistaken didnt the saleens come with 200mph speedos or is that just a company that offers a kit. I read a while back that you could send in your gauge assembly as a core and then receive the one that has 200 on it. i think you had to change the little gear drive in the tranny too.

I looked into it and I think the Saleens had a 140. Possibly a 150 or 200, maybe an aftermarket. I did however find a site dedicated to highway patrol mustangs and they do have the 160 speedo. I have this speedo, it just stinks cuz I cant find a speedo gear suitable for the calibration. Luckily it doesnt bother me at all.
