Well i call him trusted since my dad is his boss. there is also a little slop in the steering. I think what he means by loose is that the wheels are wobbly. So is it not worth it to replace the ball joints for $60?

replacing the ball joints will cost more then $60. You will have to replace your wheels bearing since you never want to put old bearing back on your car. That will cost you atleast another $80 for the inners/outers.

Slop in the steering would be more attributed to tie rod ends or a worn out steering box.

Shi* I don't know what the hell to do now. Car maintenance sucks ***. But if the tech says the ball joints are bad im going to have to trust him since i dont know how to tell. So what else should i replace while i do this? i only got $1100 to my name so i gotta stay under that.

The control arms will run you about 210 bucks for a set...you might be able to get them for a little less, but not much...Plus bearings, that's another 80...so figure 350 for parts + shipping if you order them online. The labor is the toughest part...I just redid the ball joints on my 89 and it cost me 420 bucks for them to replace one side...I did the other one myself and there was no way I was going to do both. That was just for labor, cause I supplied the parts. They also replaced my tie rod ends and sway bar links, so knock some of that total off...The estimate for just replacing the control arm was about 220 bucks. This was at a Ford dealer.

I really don't know if the problem is your ball joints. Why are you in such a rush to fix it right now? Did you tell the mechanic what your car was doing wrong and he suggested that it was the ball joints or did he test drive your car and look things over before telling you that it was your ball joints. Check to see if the rubber boot on your ball joints are ripped.
