i have one in a box somewhere.....chrome too.....screw in base then a filter to press in...kinda like what bernie has.
i use two breathers as well and i retained my pcv valve...no problems

it will work, but there is a vac leak. its not huge but there is one. i used to do the same thing you did till i just switched to two breathers and no pcv

luckythirteen covered the vac leak issue pretty well.
Some folks get away with it, others have nothing but problems.
The reason for keeping the pcv system closed and intact is to prevent corrosive volatiles from accumulating in the crankcase.
Since the crankcase is constantly pulling in fresh air, contaminants in the crankcase vapor can constantly be pulled out of the crankcase.
This will allow your oil to last longer and remain cleaner. Closed pcv systems are one of many reasons we don't see sludge build up like there was in the 60's.
