Default Should a stock motor...

Should a stock motor not make power all the way to 6k rpm? Still trying to figure out if my motor is stock.

i dont know if my car is diff cause it's an 86 with the crappy heads... lol.. but.. mine starts to trail off right around 4500-4600.. i usualy shift at 4800rpm.. so if your pulling all the way to 6000rpm.. then i would say it's not a stock cam. try getting a vacum reading.. get the spec for stock... if it's low.. that might be a good clue that you do have a cam. just my .02 cents.

It varies based on age, care, etc, but a stock HO 302 should stop pulling ~5400 or so. It could be a little higher or lower, depending on circumstances.

when mine was stock it stopped pulling at 5200.
it was like hitting the brakes.

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Yeah, that's what other Mustangs that I've driven have felt like--like you were hitting the breaks above 5k. Mine seems to pull harder the higher the revs get.

Thanks for the suggestion Frdmustang. I think I'll try that when I get the time. Is that a pretty good way of knowing for sure?
