Default T-5 gets stuck in fourth

I bought this tranny off E-bay, they said it had about 2K on it since a rebuild. I've driven the car approximately 5K miles since putting it in with only slight grinding going from third into fourth. Just recently it had stopped grinding so I wasn't too worried about it, the other day I when I was driving I tried going into fourth and didn't grind like synchros but it didn't initially let me into fourth and when it did go into fourth it took quite a bit of playing with the shifter back and forth and a fair amount of force to get it out. Even when I come to a stop and turn off the engine it remains in fourth. I continued to drive probably another 30 miles in top gear and when I came to a stop and got going again going into third started to grind on me. Has this happened to anyone else? What do you think shift fork maybe?

My '93 S10 had a T5 and it used to get stuck in gear and I had to unbolt the shifter and move the part of the tranny where the shifter goes with a pry bar. I drove it around without using 3rd gear for a few months until I found a different tranny to put in.

Im almost positive I messed it up powershifting. Something must have bent just enough to cause trouble but I didnt notice anything unusual when I took it apart.

hey paul, i highly doubt he is Powershifting into forth, and why would you list an '05 Hyundai Elantra GLS- 2.0/5 speed?

smokemetallic89 I don't think it's the fork cause it would give you issues in every gear, not just going into fourth. You may just need to call up that guy at bitch at him.

Unfortunately it was almost a year ago that I bought the tranny had to do some body work, paint etc. in between. The transmission seemed to deteriarate really fast from just a little grinding in one gear to grinding in third as well and not being able to get out of fourth.

Im just saying thats what broke mine. I always shifted without the clutch on that truck.

I just listed my Elantra because I always list everything I drive. Its my daily driver. The Mustang is listed above it.

When I say shift fork that's different than the clutch fork, the shift fork is in the tranny and there's a separate one for 1st @ 2nd gear and 3rd @ 4th. What do you mean by metallica owns.

I hadn't really thought of my sig as being related to one of the greatest bands, it's actually the color of my car.

LOL.....that is almost like waving back at someone that waved to a person behind you...not you.

Try pulling your shifter out and looking in there to see what you might come up with.
