Default 8LD comp and mass air swap

A buddy of mine has some spare parts to sell me and I'm thinking about jumping on it;
What do you guys think of the 8LD computer...
It's from an 88GT cali car (5spd) and I've heard mixed results about the differences.
I've heard they're detuned for emissions, but I've also heard that they have a more agressive spark (possible meant timing? which wouldn't make sense)

He's offering me the 8LD comp, stock mass air meter, harness adapter, and a chrome strut tower brace for 180.

What do you guys think? Good deal?

Also, I'm expecting a better idle; better throttle response, and better gas mileage. Do I have my hopes set too high?

If you want to convert it to mass air then convert it. You can always just buy a new computer if that one doesn't turn out to be the one for you, they're easy enuf to swap if you don't like it.

I'd jump on it. Thats a pretty good price on a mass air swap.

I agree with Scout.
Also, if you will be getting a custom tune, then who cars what computer you start with.

The tune differences should not be that big anyway.

You may not see any MPG gains, but drivability may improve, depending on your mods.
